HINTS AND TIPS

These general tips will help you capture variety footage to make your family video a pleasure to watch.
  • Preparation is key: make sure you known your camcorder enough to be in the best situation and to react quickly to anything that might happen. Also, prepare in advance (the day before) all your gears (charged batteries, several tapes, all accessories you believe will be needed).
  • Talk with the event organizers or hosts, preferably several days or hours in advance,  to best understand when and how things are supposed to happen. This way you will be able to anticipate and get ready for what is important.
  • When shooting, always keep your camcorder ready in hand to never be caught by surprise.
  • Stay close to the action without of course disturbing the protagonists or spectators. Feel free to bend on your knees or sit on the floor to help you remain at the first row. You will then capture the best of the action.
  • Alternate wide, medium and close shots. This will provide variety at the editing stage.
  • Shoot the spectators. They express a lot of emotions that will also add variety to your final composition.
  • Move around left to right, back to front, and up and down to find different angles to create original shots.
